There was not much to cheer about for dance teams in 2009. The collapse of the Arena Football League shuttered not only the football teams, but their cheer squads as well. The challenging recession meant that many clubs also cut back on entertainment, closing more dance and cheer squads.
Thankfully, the picture was not quite so glum everywhere, leading us to our third annual gallery of the most beautiful and talented ladies in minor league and alternative pro sports, the top twenty cheerleaders and dancers gracing courts, rinks, and sidelines from 2009.
In a sign of economic turnaround, we have even heard rumors that a baseball club might be setting up its own cheer squad.
Particularly in the last year, with millions of people finding themselves out of a job, fans could use a little cheering up more than cheering on, and those dance teams that were out there still gave it their all.
There is nothing rough about our top dance team, except for the name of their National Lacrosse League (NLL) club. The Calgary RoughNecks Drill Crew was tapped as our No. 1 dance team in 2010, and their Dana Murphy was selected as our number one MADT dancer.
